Correction and Supersession Procedure
Superseded - do not work to this revision This is the text as issued on 2026-03-02. It was in force for 98 days and is retained unaltered under the revision that replaced it. The revision in force is Rev 12, effective 2026-06-08. Where this copy and that one disagree, that one governs.
1 Purpose
This procedure controls changes to issued controlled documents. It applies whether the change corrects a material error or replaces an obsolete instruction.
2 Required disposition
| Condition | Disposition | Register action |
|---|---|---|
| Typographic error; meaning unchanged | Correct at next revision | Increment revision |
| Technical meaning changed | Supersede immediately | Retain prior title and effective date |
| Release withdrawn | Remove released copy | Retain existence and withdrawal basis |
3 Procedure
The originating office submits replacement text and a statement of affected meaning. Records verifies the revision block, updates the register, and performs a repository search for the superseded statement.
Where the superseded statement is quoted in another holding, Records corrects the quotation in place. The quoting document is not revised, because its own meaning has not changed.
4 Limitations
This procedure controls documents, not every copy made from them. Printed copies become uncontrolled when removed from an identified distribution point.
